National Geographic in Oasi for an adventure
For the first time in Italy, the Oasi Dynamo nature reserve hosted 14 explorers from all over the world. Here they presented their studies, received training, and learned new ways to increase the impact of their scientific research for the safeguarding of the Earth.
A week of international meetings and training in the heart of Tuscany. From September 6th to 11th, the Oasi Dynamo nature reserve hosted – for the first time in Italy – the international meeting of National Geographic Explorers. Fourteen explorers from across Europe and the Middle East, as well as from Africa and Central America, gathered in the heart of Tuscany to present their studies, undergo training, and learn new ways to increase the impact and scope of their scientific research and projects for the safeguarding of the Earth. Since 1890, the National Geographic Society has supported the work of 14,000 Explorers across all continents. Explorers are highly curious scholars, with a passion for our planet and its preservation.
They are exceptional researchers in their fields who receive funding and support from the National Geographic Society to enhance and protect the wonders of our world. They perform extraordinary work in addressing current challenges, proposing solutions, and inspiring change. They operate in 5 main areas of study: oceans, land, wildlife, human history and cultures, and human ingenuity. Their mission is to illuminate and protect the world's wonders through science, exploration, education, and storytelling. The Oasi Dynamo nature reserve hosted, at Oasyhotel, a diverse mix of photographers, ecologists, archaeologists, educators, and marine scientists. They participated in public speaking, storytelling, and photography sessions. In the spirit that distinguishes the National Geographic Society, the Explorers then presented and shared their work, including a select audience of guests, among institutional and local stakeholders. They presented results of important research on flora, fauna, and climate; reaching new conclusions and solutions for environmental protection and, consequently, for humanity. During their stay, the Explorers also participated in team-building programs designed and organized by Oasi Dynamo. Outdoor activities such as mountain biking, orienteering challenges, and astronomical observations. Immersed in over a thousand hectares of unspoiled nature, the Oasi Dynamo nature reserve provided the backdrop for a unique and extraordinary event. In addition to the Explorers, several National Geographic representatives participated in the activities, including Marco Cattaneo, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Magazine Italy, as well as senior executives from National Geographic Society HQ in Washington: Alex Moen – Chief Explorer Engagement Officer, and Crystal Brown – Chief Communications, Marketing and Brand Officer. "The experience at Oasi Dynamo was exceptional! Sharing time with our National Geographic Explorers in this splendid natural environment was truly special," says Crystal Brown with emotion. For Oasi Dynamo, hosting one of the most prestigious scientific and educational institutions in the world is a privilege and an important part of its daily work to build a better future.
